Bangalore can be self-sufficient in its water needs, says Geologist
Former senior geologist of the Geological Society of India and Geology department, Mr K C Subhash Chandra in a recently held lecture told that Bangalore can be self sufficient in its water needs. He told that if the rainwater is harvested carefully and the treated sewage water is used properly than it can serve the water needs of nearly fifty lakh residents in Bangalore. He also said that these methods are economical and eco-friendly.
He made the observations while delivering a lecture on ‘Demand, resource availability and status of drinking water supply to mega city like Bangalore’ , that was held at the Geological Society of India in Bangalore. He said that if the total sewage load of 26,316 hectare metre per year generated in the City can be treated up to tertiary level and brought to safe standards and drinking water-usage and even if 50 per cent of treated water is put to use, it can serve 26 lakh people.
