Bangalore-Chennai industrial corridor — the most ambitious ‘smart city’ project
Bangalore is apparently set to benefit from the NDA government 2014-15 fiscal budget, especially when it comes to the government’s noteworthy focus on getting the ‘smart cities’ project implemented enthusiastically by developing 100 smart cities.
That the Budget is a good sop for Bangalore is evident from the fact that the one of the country’s most ambitious ‘smart cities’ projects is in the city — the Bangalore-Chennai industrial corridor has been marked for development as a smart city. Moreover, Tumkur district headquarters will also be another smart city in Karnataka, with Rs70 crore allocated for the project.
An analysis of the efforts required for making life ‘technology-driven’ in Bangalore-Chennai industrial corridor shows that developing the area as smart city will not be much of a task.
The Bangalore-Chennai industrial corridor already boasts strong infrastructure, which paves the way for connectivity as well as housing. In addition, a number of big, medium- and small-scale industries alongside the highway offer huge potential for employment.
Moreover, bigwig tech companies of the country all have offices in Electronic City, which is a gateway to Bangalore-Chennai industrial corridor.
With regard to developing the Bangalore-Chennai industrial corridor as smart city, urban expert Mohandas Pai said: “The idea is good one; Bangalore-Chennai corridor is the best area in India. We also need Bangalore-Chennai-Hyderabad to be developed as a golden triangle.”
