Bangalore ranks first in India in quality of living
Bangalore- In terms of quality of living, Bangalore tops all other cities in India, reveals a recent survey by global HR consultancy Mercer.
According to Mercer’s 2012 Quality of Living Index, the Silicon City Bangalore being ranked at 139, leads among other prime cities of India including New Delhi (143), Mumbai (146), Chennai (150) and Kolkata (151).
The worldwide survey report reveals that the emerging international schools are the main reason for the rise in Bangalore’s quality of living ranking.
Mumbai is ranked 134 in terms of city infrastructure, while Kolkata stands at 141, New Delhi-153, Chennai-168 and Bangalore-170.
Considering New York as the base city, Mercer surveyed 221 cities and listed them in the Quality of Living index.
Globally, Vienna is at the lead, followed by Zurich and Auckland in second and third place respectively. The other cities in top ten list include Munich (4th), Vancouver (5th), Dusseldorf (6th), Frankfurt (7th), Geneva (8th), Copenhagen (9th), and Bern and Sydney tied in 10th place. However, none of the Indian cities could find a place in the top ten list.
Mercer Senior Researcher Slagin Parakatil said that multinational companies need to be aware of current events and local circumstances for planning compensation packages for expatriates.
Commonfloor experts speculate that Bangalore, emerging as the most preferred city to live, among all other cities of India, for people from various regions, has been witnessing rapidly increasing population year after year. At this rapid growth, several places lying in the outskirts of Bangalore are likely to be merged into the city limits in near future.
