Bangalore to get Ten Multi-Level Parking Facilities at the Cost of Parks
Ten multi-level parking facilities will come up for Rs 100 crore at different locations in Bangalore where shopping malls are located and parking is an issue.
The places chosen include : A vacant site in one corner of Freedom Park, on Gandhi Bazar Main Road, a vacant land next to Garuda Mall, at Jayanagar shopping complex, at BBMP health centre space on Sirur Park Road, at the space of a health centre at Akkithimmanahalli playground , at the BBMP site near Malleswaram West temple, near Cantonment railway station, near Russell Market and near Kumbara Gundi. Of these, BBMP failed to find space at Cantonment railway station surroundings, so it deferred the project.
Of these chosen places, one park and a playground will have to do with shrinking space to make way for the parking area. The project will be taken up. Near Sirur Park, we will have the multi-level parking facility at the space allotted for the health centre. It will not affect the park. But at Akkithimmanahalli Stadium, an underground parking lot will come up in the unutilized space at the corner of the playground. We will take up the work only with public consent .
While calling out to residents chanting ‘return to the playground ‘, BBMP now says multi-level parking facility will come up in playgrounds. The project that was scrapped by BBMP commissioner after media criticism and public uproar last year has been proposed in this year’s budget. In the Action Taken Report tabled along with the budget copy on Thursday, BBMP has said the project of multi-level parking facilities will be taken up this year. The worst-hit are Sirur park in Malleswaram and Akkithimmanahalli stadium near Shanthinagar.
