Basic amenities in rehabilitation settlements in Chennai
In the light of repeated complaints regarding poor drinking facilities and water supply in the rehabilitation settlements built in Chennai, the Chennai Corporation has asked the slum clearance board to provide basic amenities in the housing board quarters for the poor population.
Earlier the corporation instructed all the 200 ward councillors in the city to visit the slums and housing board apartments in their divisions and submit a list of problems to the mayor. Based on the list provided by them the issues related to lack of basic amenities came to light.
In the meeting held between the corporation and the slum clearance board, both parties agreed to cooperate with each other addressing the issues and it was decided that meetings will be held with councilors from every zone on a weekly basis.
