BBMP gets HC notice over leasing properties
The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday sent a notice to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in a petition alleging irrational lease of public properties.
Five Year Law Course Students’ Association, the petitioner, had approached the Court alleging that the Palike has leased out its property for a pittance.
The petitioner had claimed that the BBMP leased out 3,000 sq m of land on Cavalry Road to a private company for a meager Rs 100 for a period of 99 years way back in 1976.
The company violated the lease terms by sub-let the property for Rs 28 lakh and the Palike has failed to initiate any action against the lessee, the petitioner alleged.
K?N Puttegowda, the counsel for the Palike admitted that there were over a hundred such properties in the City and some solution should be arrived at to address the problem.
The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B?V?Nagarathna ordered notice to the State government, Urban Development Department, commissioner, BBMP and others.
