Biometric ID a must to register property in Delhi

1 Comment Sub Category:Civic Issues,Delhi-NCR Posted On: Jan 04, 2013

IDBadgeDelhi/NCR- Now owners  registering properties in Delhi should obligatorily have biometric identity proof along with other mandatory documents, an Aadhar Unique Identification (UID) number and an enrollment slip should be provided at the registrar’s office.

The revenue department made the Biometric ID proof  mandatory from January 1 for almost all of its  services including  registration of property to domicile and SC/ST certificates. The same will be followed by other departments as well.

Departments who are also enrolled under the ongoing National Population Register of the Union home ministry  should also have a biometric ID as well. This  rule which will be implemented  on January 1 in all the 11 revenue districts was accepted with accepted with chaos.

Although the biometric procedure was in an experimental mode, there were still a large number of applicants who arrived at deputy commissioners office on January 1 were in for a shock as  most of them were unaware about the UID enrollment and others were still in line to get their number despite enrolling earlier. The applicants were at the office for property related work.

As per the rule, Delhi’s divisional commissioner and revenue secretary Dharampal has made it mandatory that all the applicants visiting the offices  in large number should  obligatorily hand over a UID number or an enrollment slip to the deputy commissioners. Perhaps most of them have yet not got a hold of it as the rule was recently imposed  in Delhi and most of them have to enroll themselves for the UID number.

Since most of the applicants were confused about the  entire procedure, Dharampal  stated about the 1.37 crore out of  1.67 crore population had enrolled themselves for the UID followed by others acquiring it too. He also said that people who approach the counters for any of the 20 services offered by the revenue department should obligatorily get their UID enrollment slips or UID numbers. Applicants without these cards will not be enrolled for any of the services.

There are various centers initiated for the  Aadhaar enrolment by the deputy commissioners with three enrollment centers in the east district office. Dharampal also said that although the enrollment of Adhar is mandatory, but people will have to get it to get benefited from the services.

The key reason for this new rule is to link the services to biometric identity proof and in case an individual is not willing to enroll under Aadhaar, he will be enrolled under the mandatory National Population Register.
