The BWSSB will soon announce a new deadline to install rainwater harvesting (RWH) system. May 27,2010 was the deadline fixed to install RWH system for the property owners. However, the water board extended the deadline till the government notified a date. A decision is expected soon.
More than 20,000 houses have already installed it, but it is yet to be implemented throughout the city, even though it’s mandatory. The BWSSB Act, dated August 25, 2009, stated: “Within nine months from the date of commencement of BWSSB (Amendment) Act 2009, every owner or occupier of a building having a site area of 2,400 sqft (40X60) and above or every owner who proposes to construct a building on a site area of 1,200 sqft (30X40) and above shall provide for rainwater harvesting structure.”Hence, it was made mandatory and May 27 was the deadline fixed to install RWH system. However, the water board amended this act and extended the deadline till the government notified a date. The decision of an extended deadline came after residents demanded more time to install the facility.
Those who are yet to install the rainwater harvesting (RWH) system at their homes have no time to waste now. The BWSSB warned that water supply and sewage connections would be turned off if the property owners failed to install RWH on or before the deadline. BWSSB will soon announce a new deadline for Rainwater Harvesting.
