Car pooling gain commuter’s interest in metropolitan cities

Comments(2) Sub Category:Awareness,Community Posted On: Nov 16, 2011

The concept of car pooling is fast gaining importance in cities like  Bangalore, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata. The concept came into use to limit the use of vehicles and commute easily. With car pooling office goers can choose to commute with their neighbours traveling in the same route.

Around 300 commuters in Chennai have registered to find people with similar work timings and traveling route. Bangalore had launched this initiative much before in 2008 and around 16,000 registrations were filed. The support of the city traffic police is essential to make this initiative a big success. However, the additional traffic police commissioner, Sanjay Arora said that, their department has no clear idea about the effects of car pooling in major cities. So, he has ordered the traffic police to be cautious in implementing such a concept.
Many believe that if this concept is promoted on the social networking sites, it would help the city police understand what car pooling is so they could render their support for the same and this would also make car pooling a popular way to commute.

This is a great initiative, and I believe there should be some preference given to car pooling travellers in terms of dedicated lane driving during office hours or so.

Well said there, keep up the good writing!
