Aadhaar cardHyderabad- The  deadline for linking Aadhaar card with LPG cylinders in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts has been extended to May 15, 2013.

Central government has refused to extend this deadline further as it has already been extended thrice from February 15, 2013.

The five districts in state where this pilot project is implemented are Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Anantapur, Chittoor, and East Godavari.

LPG consumers who fail to procure Aadhaar card number will have to pay full and unsubsidized cost of the cylinder. The cost of LGP cylinder for domestic purpose is Rs 1,020 and the subsidy component is Rs 600.

In case the consumer submits the Aadhaar number to gas agencies within six months, oil companies will  deposit the subsidy amount in arrears.

Despite extending the deadline twice, it was found that only only 36 percent and 43 percent of the LPG consumers in Rangareddy and Hyderabad districts respectively have got their Aadhaar cards linked with their gas connections. While, it is 50 percent in other three districts of the state.

People were facing many problems like limited registration centers, insufficient staff and application forms. The applications downloaded from internet was not accepted by the staff members of the center. Additionally, the entire process of applying for Aadhaar card is very time consuming.

As per the scheme, initially a subsidy amount  will be deposited by the oil companies in customer’s bank account before the supply of gas to consumer (without booking). This amount will be deposited only after the Aadhaar number is provided to oil companies by the consumer.

When the company comes to know that cylinder is delivered to the consumer, the subsidy amount for the next cylinder will be deposited in the bank account. Thus, total nine cylinders will be delivered in a year for which companies will deposit nine subsidy amount.

From July, 1, 2013, pensions will also be included in Direct Benefit Scheme (cash transfer to the beneficiaries’ accounts). Consumers awaiting for Aadhaar numbers can obtain their e-enrollment number at the Mee Seva or e-Seva centres.

Now, Aadhaar-LPG subsidy linkage will also be applicable in eight more districts of the state. Residents of Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Krishna, Guntur, Kurnool, Kadapa, Nalgonda and Adilabad districts will have to procure Aadhaar cards to avail LPG subsidy. They have to submit Aadhaar cards to gas agencies by July, 1 ,2013.
