Provide Aadhaar cards to NRI’s: Kerala govt
Kerala- Kerala government has sent a request to Federal government to include Non-resident Indians (NRIs) in Aadhaar card plan.
The Chief minister of Kerala sent this request to Federal United Progressive Alliance government at the on-going Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 9, 2013. He wanted to consider this request after the process was completed for resident Indian citizens.
If this proposal is accepted then the NRIs from Kerala can get more recognition at home who have contributed their vigor to the state’s economic progress. Besides giving a unique identity to an individual, aadhar card has its own benefits like beneficiary-oriented schemes.
The non-resident Keralites can only vote in the local body elections if the there are some changes in state panchayati raj and municipal legislation. Thus government is also planning to amend these.
Besides this the Chief minister highlighted the complaints of the non-resident Keralites regarding the sluggish attitude of Air India carrying services in the Gulf-Kerala sector. To address this issue, the state government is planning to launch its own airline, named Air Kerala.
Many people opposed this opinion of separate airline as it will not run profitably. But a company board has been constituted to discuss this matter.
