Chennai Corp plans to construct 5 bridges
Chennai- The Chennai corporation has proposed to build five bridges across the city in 2013-14. These bridges have been proposed in order to ease traffic congestion in the city.
The bridges will be constructed at a total cost of Rs 13 crore. Now the residents and commuters of Bojaraja Nagar in north Chennai and Old Washermenpet will soon have a vehicle subway.
Many families will also have easier entrance and exit at Srinivasapuram and Mint as this subway will replace the railway level-crossing near Mint.
A bridge will be constructed across Buckingham Canal which will connect Murugesan Nagar in Thoraipakkam to Pandiyan Salai in Neelankarai. Completion of this bridge will give relief to many IT professionals in south Chennai to reach East Coast Road (ECR). This new bridge will give another route to escape from traffic in peak hours.
The civic body is also planning to reconstruct a box culvert at Padi Pudu Nagar Road across Padikuppam canal. On the same way, two more bridges will be constructed. One will link R.K. Link Road at Korattur and Jawaharlal Nehru Salai at Baba Nagar and the other will be constructed at Narayanapuram across the Keelkattalai Tank Surplus Course at Pallikaranai.
Although the decision of subway was confirmed in mid-2011, but it got delayed due to metrowater work.
The renovation works at two heritage buildings named Ripon Buildings and Victoria Public Hall will also be completed within 2013. Around Rs.11.06 crore has been spent by corporation towards renovation of these two buildings.
After the expansion of Chennai city, the solid waste has been increased to 4,700 metric tonnes per day. The Chennai corporation is taking steps to set up waste processing facilities at Minjur-Vallur and Kuthambakkam.
