Chennai Corporation to build multi-level parking lot

No Comments Sub Category:Chennai,Cities,Civic Issues Posted On: Dec 19, 2012

Chennai- Chennai Corporation can now construct a multi-level parking lot on Bashyam Road at T.Nagar as Madras High Court denied to intervene in this affair.

However, the court said that any part of Panagal Park (by the side of road) would not be encroached to construct parking facility in T. Nagar.

The  public interest litigation petition seeking the authorities to take action against the construction of the multi-level parking lot was dismissed by the First Bench comprising the Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam.

Social activist K.R. Ramaswamy, also the petitioner, feels that the proposal should be taken back as construction of this parking facility will block the entrance of park with no free movement of vehicles around the park. The first bench said that if the counter affidavit is examined then this facility will be constructed in front of the park on a vacant land.

The final feasibility report says that vertical space will be used to build the  multi-level parking area which will maximize the space. This facility will be designed and established in the same manner as New Delhi Municipal Council, Navi Mumbai, Brihanmumbai, Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad Corporations, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority did.

The idea behind building the parking lot is that it will automatically move the vehicles by lift and then would transfer the vehicles to the proper floor.
