This rating is checked through 9 parameters which are energy efficiency; water conservation; use of renewable energy, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, conservation and recycling of materials; waste management; establishment of a green supply chain, product stewardship and lifecycle assessment.
Adoption of New Measures
Sinha added, for India Inc, it is relatively new concept; many companies have started adopting measures to incorporate environmental concerns in their businesses to improve performance and competitiveness. We are targeting to bring around 100 companies under the programme by the end 2015.
The rating programme is a deliberate initiative that seeks devotion from companies in manufacturing and services sectors to carefully use natural resources starting from production to waste disposal.
In February 2011, the initiative started as a pilot and was formally launched in March last year. 14 companies including the Bangalore International Airport ACC, ITC (Bhadrachalam), Karnataka-based Vasavadatta Cement and JK Tyre, Pune based Tata Motors, Cummins India, Kirloskar Oil Engines and Kirloskar Brothers was rated out of the 50 companies that volunteered.
