Civic panel to study Pune 24×7 water supply proposal
Pune Civic panel to study the proposal for 24×7 water supply drafted by BMC. On September 8, 2010, the then municipal commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mahesh Zagade had tabled a proposal submitted by Tata Consultancy Services before the standing committee on how to address the city’s water supply needs. The firm had sought a fee of Rs 37 crore for the project. Standing committee members had then opposed the proposal, saying the fee was excessive and had sent it back to the civic administration.
Standing committee members on Tuesday asked the civic administration to acquire the proposal for 24×7 water supply drafted by the BMC.
“Before any final decision on the 24×7 water supply proposal for Pune, we want to study the proposal drafted by BMC. We have asked the water supply department to seek the same and table it before the standing committee,” said committee member Shrikant Patil, after the meeting on Tuesday.
The committee, meanwhile, approved construction of overbridges at Santosh Hall Chowk on Sinhagad Road and Vishrantwadi-Alandi chowk, with elevators to ensure that pedestrians use the bridge.
On December 14, 2010, the civic body floated a tender seeking consultant who would carry out the network analysis, take corrective measures, such as leak detection, system rehabilitation and a water audit check the flow measurement, ensure systems’ reengineering and network rehabilitation, and suggest cost-effective measures to meet the city’s water demand for the next 30 years. At a little over Rs 33 crore, NJS Consultants Company Ltd had proposed the lowest bid. The civic standing committee has to decide on the proposal.
