Commuters demand in Chennai
The St Thomas Mount and Velachery Main Road in Chennai city is closed since two years.
These roads have connectivity to newly-merged areas of Greater Chennai. Therefore the citizens of Chennai want to start the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) services here.
However, in reply to this the MTC experts say that there is enough buses to operate this stretch into interior areas in southern suburbs of the city. The residents have complaint of lack of bus services from Adambakkam to Guindy.
The four-lane stretch between St Thomas and Velachery connecting GST Road with the IT Corridor which was constructed with a budget of Rs 130 crore was opened recently to ease the traffic in the main city.
This stretch was built to provide better connectivity, however which is now being used by private vehicles only!
