Congress suspends corporator
The Congress on Tuesday suspended Ramaswamy Palya BBMP corporator N Chandra, who is accused of assaulting UV Singh-chief conservator of forests (Lokayukta Vigilance Director) during his inspection of the Nagavara tank on Sunday. The Congress has condemned the attack on U V Singh.
BWSSB chief engineer (corporate planning and waste water management) SM Basavaraj, who has been accused of permitting dumping of waste in the lake, has denied that he had any role in the dumping of industrial effluents in any city lake. “I was not in the city when the attack took place. An engineer has no authority to give permission to dump waste in lakes as they don’t come under the jurisdiction of the board,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition in BBMP, M Nagaraj, said the corporator will also face the disciplinary committee of the Congress. If found guilty, he is liable for expulsion. KPCC media committee chairman Prof B K Chandrashekhar said a few officers of the BWSSB had joined hands with industries, which generated hazardous waste, and helped them release the waste into the tanks.
The Indian Forest Service (IFS) Association, Karnataka, has condemned the attack on U V Singh by ‘certain goonda elements.’
