Court admits PIL on cluster redevelopment

A complaint was filed in the Bombay high court by a Thane resident claiming that two civic bodies had authorized cluster redevelopment in their areas without doing any impact evaluation study of the scheme. On March 19 hearing will be done on the PIL filed by Dattatray Daund.

Daund alleged that impact assessment study should have been done by local civic bodies (BMC and TMC) before giving it consent to the cluster development policy.

CM Prithviraj Chavan in February made a declaration in the state assembly about the government giving its permission for the cluster development. Cluster redevelopment will need a minimum area of one hectare presently occupied by legal or illegal constructions, as per the urban development department. The developer will be permitted to an FSI of 4.

The activist mentioned that he was not against cluster redevelopment. Daund further added that he wanted to know if municipal corporations have taken into concern the effect the policy would have on active infrastructure of these cities.
