Courts order to set up STP in Kochi
Kochi might soon witness a sewage treatment plant. Kerala High Court has directed for the set up of the plant to the District collector of Ernakulam . For the implementation of the project it has asked to set aside 40 cents of land. It also ordered the District Collector to mark a specific part of land and hand it within deadline of ten days for this. that Aquakem Engineers (India) Private Limited, a subsidiary of a Sharjah-based company,will set up the plant at its own cost. After completion of the construction of the sewage treatment plant (STP), it will rent it out to the Kochi Corporation.
The Collector had also been directed to allot land to the Pollution Control Board for setting up a temporary STP plant at Brahmapuram.The court also directed the corporation, the State government, the pollution control board and the Suchitwa Mission to monitor the work of the company and submit reports before the court.
