Delhi: New action plan to regularize illegal colonies before polls
At a meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday, the Union Urban Development Ministry and Delhi government decided to work out an action plan, with new guidelines, for the regularization of all illegal colonies in the city. The task will be accomplished over the next few months, ahead of the assembly polls in Delhi.
The meeting was chaired by Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. All Delhi MPs – except Manoj Tiwari – as well as the three mayors and top officials of the government departments attended the meeting.
With the objective of reaping potential benefits in the assembly polls by focusing on unauthorized colonies, the Union Government has decided to lay down the agenda for regularizing all illegal colonies in Delhi. The government will give instructions to the city government on the basis of the issues which the MLAs and councillors have raised in this regard.
Within the next 15 days, a concept paper will be prepared, so as to enable the Delhi government to commence consultations with the Urban Development Ministry for readying an action plan on illegal colonies.
As per the sources aware of the proceedings of the Tuesday meeting, the Delhi government officials said that, out of a total of 1,639 illegal colonies, regularization notifications have been issued only for 895 colonies. However, one of the officials also added: “Technically, no colony has been regularized yet.”
