Delhi RWAs to Protest against Power Tariff Hike
RWAs across New Delhi demanded that a campaign be started to protest against the 22% power tariff hike. They met for a Jan Sunvai on power tariff hike at Chelmsford Club on Saturday. A meeting between United Residents Joint Action (URJA) and Delhi RWAs was held to seek people’s opinion on the recent tariff hike in Delhi.
While many suggested that consumers pay their bills after deducting the hiked percentages if the government does not roll back the hike, URJA chairman and People’s Action president, Sanjay Kaul, stressed on using democratic means to achieve a lasting solution.
Most members felt that the government, which holds 49% stake in the discoms, was supporting the discoms and had influenced DERC to raise the tariff. An organizing committee was also constituted in addition to the technical committee constituted earlier this week.
