Disaster strikes without much Advance Notice to the Builders

The buildings in disaster-prone areas in Kochi wherein the construction companies fail to follow the disaster and the mitigation procedures in the construction of buildings in Kerala, says P G Gopalakrishnan, chairman of the Indian Institute of Engineers (IIE), Kerala. Gopalakrishnan admits that many engineers are not following them.  and many of the buildings are noting following the current disaster management rules. The buildings should implement seismic retrofitting resist earthquakes.
Most of the civil engineers are unaware of disaster mitigation procedures and there is no statistical data on the number of buildings constructed with this kind of management facilities. The academics point that 50% of civil engineers are not following the disaster mitigation procedures. An engineer with municipalities in Ernakulum opined that there were very few disaster in the construction of buildings. This is upheld by the Kerala Building Rules 1999
