Disposal of Garbage chokes T Nagar
More than two months after T Nagar MLA VP Kalairajan of the AIADMK promised to put an end to the problem, woes of the residents of Guild Street in T Nagar appear to be endless. Mushrooming restaurants and fast food joints are the main source of the garbage. The mosquitoes that breed in the rotting mounds of garbage add to the troubles. The situation during the rains is even worse because the rainwater stagnates in huge pools.
“We have been suffering for over years. Successive governments have failed to address this issue,” says T Nagar Residents Welfare Association joint secretary V Santhanam.
Students of a near-by primary school and devotees to the centuries-old Shiva Vishnu Temple are the worst-affected, the residents state. The mosquitoes that breed in the rotting mounds of garbage add to their troubles.
The corporation zonal officer concerned is also of the opinion that the public and the number of eateries in the locality should be careful about the way garbage is disposed. “We are clearing the garbage twice a day and this still is insufficient,” he says.
T Nagar MLA VP Kalairajan says that the public should cooperate with the corporation in eradicating the problem. “The residents blame the restaurants while the restaurant owners claim they dispose of the garbage hygienically,” he says. “Being a commercial area, any number of bins placed by the corporation is proving to be insufficient,” he adds.
