Door-to-door survey to plug water leakage
Having failed to plug the wastage of water, the agencies have now decided to conduct a door-to-door survey in order to identify the source of the problem. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has joined forces with the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to address the problem. The survey will focus on the problems of water supply, sewerage and solid waste management.
The survey will collect details on how many houses have metered and unmetered connections, how much water is consumed and how many are not working etc.The survey will also collect details on the amount of solid waste generated by each household and the number of borewells, besides the sanitary connection.
According to BWSSB officials, about 910 mld of Cauvery water is supplied to the city daily. Recently, BWSSB officials detected 15 cases of water theft and initiated criminal proceedings against the culprits. The BWSSB chairman PB Ramamurthy has asked his engineers to identify all illegal water connections in the city and initiate stringent action against the guilty.
