DUAC to consider redevelopment of East Kidwai Nagar
New Delhi: The low rise government colony East Kidwai Nagar which is located adjacent to Dilli Haat is proposed to be redeveloped into around 17-18 floor residential structures.
The Delhi Urban Arts Commission (DUAC) will soon be considering the project proposal.
East Kidwai Nagar is spread across 86 acres. Sources have revealed that the project will be redeveloped in such a way that it would double the housing supply for government employees.
Currently there are 2,331 flats in the colony. It is planned to house approximately 4,800 flats after redevelopment. These residential apartments will include Type VI and Type VII dwelling units, which are meant for secretary level officers at the Centre.
An year ago, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) had proposed to redevelop East Kidwai Nagar, Srinivaspuri, Mohammadpur and R K Puram while the DUAC rejected the proposal.
Few months ago, state urban development minister Deepa Dasmunsi had said that the commission had put down the proposal for reasons such as- the project’s non-conformity with overall urban character and importance of location, using typical blocks repeatedly with no variation in heights, large scale cutting down of trees, high floor area ratio and designing buildings without conducting proper traffic and environmental studies.
