No Comments Sub Category:Awareness,Community Posted On: Oct 15, 2011

In a recent revelation it has come to light that not a single meat shop in Bangalore at Basavanagudi and JP Nagar have a trade licence or a health licence. The dumping of wastes by the butchers who are not license holders, have been a reason for the spread of epidemic diseases all over the city. The statistics provided by the Animal Husbandry Department reveals that there are around 2,109 shops in eight zones and 573 mutton stalls, 318 beef stalls, 35 pork stalls, 980 chicken shops and 203 fish shops.

A vast majority of them are not registered and also causing huge losses for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). These unregistered meat-shop are a nuisance to the city as they dump their wastes on the road. The dumping has given rise to the stray dog menace in various parts of Bangalore. There is a growing suspicion among the citizens questioning how so many irregularities exists in granting trade licences to the meat-shops by the BBMP.
