Export of Endosulfan should be permitted-SC
The Supreme Court order permitting export of dreaded pesticide Endosulfan has taken many by surprise in Malabar. On May 13, SC had imposed an interim ban on production, use or export of Endosulfan. After considering report from expert committee under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) SC has decided to remove ban on exporting Endosulfan but its production and use is still in ban.
Endosulfan pesticide is terrible pesticides that can be a threat for both health and the environment. According SC, in India 1734 a tonne of Endosulfan is stocked and Endosulfan Manufacturers and Formulators Association (EMFA) has sought permission for exporting 1090 tonnes and they are not producing or using the chemical. The SC is only permitting export of existing Endosulfan.The expert committee prepare the report for SC based on a presentation by EMFA. SC permitting export of Endosulfan has both positive and negative sides.
