The festival of lights is stressful for animals because they are sensitive to sound and tend to panic. It is a particularly harrowing time for street dogs, which have no place to hide. Not only do they have to put with the deafening sounds but the smoke envelops them.
The sound and smoke from firecrackers stresses them out. There are cases where people have carelessly left half-lit crackers on the road and the pets badly hurt from them.
On this festivals, keep your pets locked in or arrange a soundproof room for them. Take them to a vet if they develop fever or show signs of illness.
