Cylinder blast at fabrication workshop
Fire broke out in Cellothame Industries in a building near City Pride on Pune-Satara Road on Monday morning. Satish Nayar who owns a tyre shop next to the building was injured and has been admitted to a private hospital. The Fire brigade team reached the spot fifteen minutes after the fire broke out and doused the flames.At the prima facie level, it seems that a leakage in an LPG cylinder caused the blast.
According to Police, Dilip Gondhulkar runs a fabrication business where gas cutters are used to cut metals.It was during this process that a leak occurred and sparks from the welding work, that was also conducted at the same venue, started the fire. Satish Nayar who owns a tyre shop next to the building was near the cylinder and got injured when the fire broke out. He is now out of danger.
The owner of the building was using domestic gas cylinders for a commercial purpose, which is illegal. At the prima facie level, it seems that a leakage in an LPG cylinder caused the blast. Fire fighting equipment was not installed at the shop, because of which it took some time to get control over the fire.
The roof of the workshop caved in due to the impact. The Dattwadi police seized the cylinder for further investigation. Some machines were also damaged in the fire. Satish Nayar suffered 10 per cent burns and has been admitted to a hospital nearby.
