Fire Safety Officer Mandatory for High-rise Buildings
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) has asked hotels with more than 100 rooms, underground shopping complexes, buildings above 50 metres in height, district centres, oil and natural gas installations and outdoor stadium with more than 50,000 seating capacity to appoint fire safety officers under Section 29 of Delhi Fire Service Act. The building owners have been asked to appoint the officer within 30 days.
Delhi Fire Services (DFS) has made it mandatory for buildings above 50 metres in height and cinema halls catering to more than 1,000 people at a time to appoint a fire safety officer. According to Section 31 of the Act, those who violate the order are liable to pay between Rs 10 and Rs 50 per square metre.
“We have made it mandatory for some installations and buildings to appoint fire safety officers under Section 29 of Delhi Fire Service Act,” Delhi Fire Services director A K Sharma said. The building owners have been asked to appoint the officer within 30 days, he added. “Most of them have appointed safety officers already. We are ensuring that all of them appoint such officers soon,” Sharma said.
