Flyovers coming soon in Chennai

Chennai will soon have two flyovers on Pallavaram and Vandalur railway station respectively. The fly overs are a joint venture between the highways department and the Southern Railways. While the former flyover will be completed by mid-November and the latter will be delivered by mid-January. The flyovers will follow the pattern of a bowstring design.

The designs are similar to the recently inaugurated Rangarajapuram flyover, which is a bowstring design. The highway department have said that they had already completed their part of the work which is to construct the structures and are waiting for the railway department to finish their work. They project has been delayed by almost an year by the railway department. The Southern Railway department have said that the delay is because of the slow pace of the work. One of the officials in the railway department have said that they are unable to increase the pace of the work as they are able to work only between midnight and 3 am as the power supply has to be stopped when the work is in progress. The fly over at the Pallavaram railway station 650 metres and is built at a cost of Rs 18 crore while the flyover connecting the east and west sides of the Vandalur railway station is 1,200 metres and will cost Rs 23.67 crore.
