Green covers burn of severe water scarcity in Delhi
The nation’s capital has been witnessing severe water scarcity, intense heat and burning greens nowadays. There is an acute shortage of water in Delhi as a result of which green covers are scorching up.
Almost 20 per cent of the plants and grass are getting dried up in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area since there is not enough water to keep them alive and fresh.
Even though Delhi’s green cover has gone up over the last decade, it still remains far below the norms laid down under the National Forest Policy. And the present water crisis is worsening it.
To maintain balance of eco-system, it is necessary to cover one-third of the total area by green belt. But however, there are no special plans to increase the greenery.
