Green Quotient in Chennai Decreasing Drastically

No Comments Sub Category:Awareness,Community,Green Living Posted On: Oct 12, 2011

Chennai citizens are increasingly feeling that there is a need to improve the verdancy all over the city, however leaving no stone unturned to increase the green quotient in Chennai. Residents, activists and even the celebrities are coming out in hordes and are organising walks, meetings and signature campaigns for a greener cause. It has been noticed there is an increased tendency in the local civic bodies to pay no heed to the pleas of the residents when it comes to improving the greens in Chennai. Although when it comes in maintaining the city clean the civic bodies are proving a commendable job.

With the decline of the greens in and around Chennai, people are craving for greener spaces. Civil right activists have prioritized the issue for more greener spaces to stop Chennai to turn into a barren concrete jungle.  Therefore to keep the government on its toes there is a sharp rise in the Right to Information Act (RTI)  filed by the activists about felling of trees also there is talk of incorporating a tree act. People are now campaigning to turn the unused vacant lands to be converted into parks or play grounds for children and also for the welfare of the residents which would in fact reduce the amount of pollution too.
