Guest houses and PGs in residential areas to be shut down by HUDA
Delhi-NCR- With the recent announcement of HUDA (Haryana Urban Development Authority) wanting to seal the PG accommodations and guest houses in the HUDA sectors, the residents and RWAs want the district administration to speed up the process of sealing such units.
However, it has not been known about the exact number of PG and guest house accommodations in the city. There was a steep increase in the growth of PG and guest house accommodations during the Commonwealth Games in areas of both old and new Gurgaon. Despite this growth, the authorities seldom took any action against such units mushrooming in the residential units.
Residents have been stating about the government’s carelessness in this matter. At present, the owners of the guest houses and PG accommodations have been warned by the districts administration to either shut down their properties in Delhi or face sealing by the authorities.
According to a higher official, the presence of Commercial ventures, including PG hostels and guesthouses are not permitted in residential areas and that the owners will face stringent actions.
A detailed survey has been carried out by the HUDA officials in all the residential areas with guest houses and PG accommodations to be sealed or shut down.
Members from the Gurgaon progressive forum are quite happy as the district administration has started paying attention to these issues despite very less units being sealed. This has however created an impact.
The members also stated that the presence of the guesthouses and PG hostels in residential areas, has created pressure on the civic facilities and the infrastructure actually meant for the residents. The amount of water and electricity consumed by each PG and guest house is double than an individual house, causing inconvenience to the neighbouring houses.
The main inner roads of the HUDA sectors are lined with PG and guest house accommodations causing a menace for residents parking. As per a resident, the parking near the PG hostels near his home is in a haphazard manner and that the owners and the PG owners/inmates have heated arguments on a daily basis. Also with most teens living in hostels coming back from late night parties, the residents are quite disturbed.
