Gujarat govt extends deadline, decreases impact fee
Ahmedabad- Along with cutting off impact fee, the Gujarat’s Urban Development Department has also extended its deadline by another month. February 19 was the last date for filing applications.
The state government has offered a last chance to those who have not yet filed their impact fee applications for regularization of unauthorised constructions, under the Gujarat Unauthorized Development Regularization (Impact Fee for Regularization of Illegal Properties) Act 2011.
The first extension was given in Aug 19 last year. The Gujarat government is also planning to cut down a part of impact fees.
Even though Ahmedabad stood first as it received the highest number of applications (around 51,801) for regularization of properties, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) legalized only 531 buildings. And if one goes by the AMC claim before the high court, there are a total of 5 lakh illegal properties in the city.
Over the past few days, the AMC had set out on a drive to disconnect drainage lines and other civic essentials of properties that are illegal.
According to the Gujarat Unauthorized Development Regularization Act 2011, the deadline for filing impact fee applications had ended on Feb 19th. But a senior urban development official revealed that the urban development department may extend the deadline by another six months if more citizens come forward to file their applications in the extended one month.
Up to Rs 2,000 has been slashed down under the revised rates for impact fee. The urban development minister said that the decision has been taken to benefit a large section of poor and middle class people.
Still the applicants have a lot of confusion regarding the submission of applications, said sources from civic authorities. They submit incomplete forms and sometimes there are certificates or attachments missing in some cases. Officers cannot approve impact fee applications unless relevant proof is attached. But impact fee process has been simplified after the new amendment.
Over 77,400 application forms have been distributed by the Corporation for the past many months following the announcement of flat rates by the state government, for certain types of illegal constructions.
As per sources, the AMC has earned around Rs 4 crore through impact fee revenue. The north zone office has the highest number of impact fee clearances with 185 properties being legalized.
