Gurgaon Residents worried over Garbage Dumps in Open Spaces

No Comments Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Aug 10, 2011

Residents of DLF City Phase 2 are worried about spread of malaria, dengue and other diseases due to dumped garbage during rainy season. According to a resident of Sushant Lok, the problem seems to have no solution. Civic agencies pass the buck. Nobody is ready to address the issue.

Residents of the Millennium City have been accusing the civic body of being indifferent towards garbage dumps in several colonies while the authority says it is making all efforts to keep the city clean. “We pay Rs 100 a month for garbage collection from our homes but what can we do with the garbage lying outside,” said NS Grewal, a resident of DLF City Phase 2.

“On July 24, we had a meeting with the estate officer as the person who collects garbage is not ready to take it to Bandhwari, the place dedicated for dumping wastes. The worker says it is very far off and so he started dumping garbage near the green belt areas which is again an issue of concern,” said BD Pahuja, general secretary of the Resident welfare Association, Sector 14.

Municipal commissioner Sudhir Rajpal said there is no problem of garbage in the city. “Earlier, the total garbage collection from the city was 200 tonnes and now it is 400 tonnes. Private contractors have been given contracts. And to keep a check on contractors, we even conduct surprise checks,” Rajpal said.
