Harsh punishments against erring autos in Kochi
The traffic department of Kochi has started an initiative to punish erring autos plying in the city. In a statement issued by the traffic department it has been stated that if the autorickshaws do not possess the relevant documents than they will be penalized heavily. Traffic police have said that there are some 4,000 autorickshaws with Calicut City(CC) permits however only 3100 autos have appeared before the police for identification process.
The traffic department have said that if the if the auto drivers fail to produce the documents in time than the department will cancel the license of the autos. The recent events may be accredited due to the clash between CC permit autos and the Orange autos. The Orange autos are autos from rural areas and are permitted to ply in the city between 7 am and 7 pm. The CC autorickshaws drivers are agitating against the move to permit Orange auto service in the city claiming that the move will hamper their livelihood badly.
