Haryana govt pushes affordable housing in Gurgaon

Housing projects for poorGurgaon- With property prices increasing rapidly in Gurgaon, buying a property in the city has become extremely difficult for buyers of low-income group (LIG). Gurgaon has emerged as a favourite destination of many property investors and real estate developers.

In order to support developers in building more and more affordable housing units, the government of Haryana has come up with a housing policy to provide housing for those belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS).

The policy has been drafted and uploaded on the state government website. The state government has welcomed suggestions on the new housing policy.

The housing units will be prices in the range of Rs 12 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. The units will be allotted to the LIG and EWS buyers through lottery draw, revealed a state government official.

Through this method, the state government is looking to push private developers to launch low-cost housing projects. The proposed built-in areas of the affordable flats are 300 sq ft and 645 sq ft. As per the draft policy, any resident of Haryana who does not own a house/plot in HUDA sector or any privately developed township in the state is eligible to apply for such properties.

Affordable Housing Policy that was announced on May 28, 2009 failed to achieve the desired result of providing the poor with low-cost housing options, admitted an official of the town and country planning department. So the Haryana government has proposed the new policy in order to encourage affordable housing projects in Gurgaon which can have some real impact in urban centers of Haryana.

The government is even planning to relax some of the norms and also floor area ratio (FAR) for such projects to be developed, explained the official.
