HC demands action plan for EWS flats
The Karnataka High Court has asked the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to file an affidavit on the plan of action concerning the reconstruction of 1,640 flats for economically weaker sections (EWS) at Ejipura after a public interest litigation petition filed by allottees of flats.
The petition stated that the original allottees of the flats are forced to reside in temporary sheds since 2007.
The BBMP had constructed 1,512 flats spread over 42 blocks and allotted them to eligible persons in 1996, in which few of them collapsed in 2003 killing some residents. Later the buildings were demolished.
However, the allottees contended they had complete right over the land. The BBMP assured the court that it would provide all the facilities to the nine-storey building proposed on the land.
