Heavy rains lashed most parts of the city

1 Comment Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Sep 25, 2010

The city came to a grinding halt with vehicles and pedestrians stranded everywhere as the city was lashed by heavy rains for more than three hours. The showers threw life out of gear at Shanthinagar, Shivajinagar,Sudhamnagar, Lalbagh Road, JC Road, Minerva Circle, Adugodi, Viveknagar, Koramangala and Hosur Road. The showers once again exposed the vulnerability of the unprepared city.

The downpour tested the patience of the motorists, and several of them failed. There were several instances of vehicles grazing against each other, as drivers moved their vehicles ahead to occupy any little place available. The Bellary Road leading to the Bengaluru International Airport, too, experienced slow-moving traffic.

MLA N A Haris’ house in Shanthinagar was inundated. Flooding was reported in Sultanpet, Nanjappa Circle, Kuvempu Nagar, JP Nagar, Ulsoor, Chalukya Circle, Vinobha Nagar and JJ Nagar, where a mixture of water and drainage muck gushed into houses.

Complaints of power disruptions were reported from Madiwala, Ejipura, Ganganagar, Narayanapura, Jeevan Bima Nagar, Rajajinagar, Defence Colony, Viveknagar, Kodigehalli, Vidyaranyapura and Nelamangala. Gaali Anjaneya temple on Mysore Road had 3ft water, Annamma temple in Gandhinagar and Ganesha Temple in Gowripalya were also flooded. Around 30 houses in Gautam Colony, Domlur, and houses in Subbaiah Garden were flooded. As many as 50 shops in Shivajinagar were washed away and 35 people were stranded at the BMTC workshop.

Open and clogged drains led to flooding of roads, houses and shops, which in turn resulted in traffic jams and damage to things. Massive traffic jams and waterlogging was reported in various parts of Bangalore, which just can’t handle the heavy rains.
