Hill Road in Mumbai regains its original name
Hill Road in Mumbai which is most commonly known as Hell Road by its residents has reverted back its old name after years.
The anti hawker drive taken by the Mumbai police has come as a relief for the residents and locals of Hill Road.
However, the hawkers have a different story to tell. They are worried about their future and livelihood. Their livelihood depends on hawking on Hill Road.
Perry Road Residents’ Association claimed that hawkers are encouraged by the politicians and a place is given in the slums. Afterwards, they are given possession of footpaths to hawk.
After the anti hawker drive, pedestrians could walk on the wide pavements. There was no vehicular traffic for motorists, who were otherwise caught in jams at the Globus junction. The residents in the Hill Road had a spectacular view after the drive.
The residents however hope that the anti hawker drive is not a temporary one and should be carried on for a greater period.
The locals and residents are now relieved after the drive. However, the matter is still pending in the Supreme Court.
