Hoardings allowed by PMC as per new norms and rates
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to give green signal to hoardings in the city which are illegal, if they follow the policy and proposed new rates of Rs 222 per sq ft.
This decision was taken by the civic body after the Bombay High Court went crude over illegal hoardings and boards in Mumbai.
Recently, the owners of the hoardings and banners met the civic body for a meeting whose main agenda was to discuss a way out from the situation in which they will be allowed to carry on the business.
As per the new policy, fresh applications will be issued as against renewal of old licences. As per an official, there will be no renewal of licence but fresh application has to be submitted for seeking permission for putting up hoardings.
The owners can start seeking permission from April 1, 2013 and after that they can continue with their business.
The PMC had stopped renewal of licences for the existing hoardings from March 2010. This was done to implement the new hoarding policy that is long pending with the state government.
PMC has also initiated the process of issuing tenders for appointing contractors for hoardings. But in the process, they found that it was likely to increase the revenue of the civic body by manifold.
However, the hoarding association is not satisfied with the policy and has dragged the civic body to court regarding the same.
