Illegal hoardingBrihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has claimed that it will remove all the illegal hoardings and boards in Mumbai within 24 hours.

The drive is being taken forward by the civic body as per Bombay High Court’s order.

As per the high court order, all the political hoardings and banners will be removed within the stipulated time. The deputy municipal commissioner of BMC said that the illegal hoardings are regularly being pulled down with the help of the encroachment removal squad and advertisement inspectors.

The hoardings and banners are a result of the politicians’ power which they use to freely publicise themselves through sky signs, posters, banners, arches and hoardings in Mumbai city. These are used in several occasions like- to announce party rallies, greet leaders on their birthdays and festivals, and during elections.

The whole procedure of filing an inspection report by a ward’s advertising inspector and legal assistant is in process. The offenders found will be prosecuted under Section 471 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act.

The civic body will file an FIR and the subject will go to the city civil court which will issue a warrant in turn and a trial will begin.

BMC has also found a new excuse to their inabilities stating that the banners are put at night and it is difficult to keep a watch at that point of time.

Volunteers of political parties and their workers put them up, but political leaders should be held responsible. Every time a top leader visits the city, they put up complimentary banners on electric poles or anywhere atop.

Also, BMC claims that it become difficult to prove a MLA or MP to prove legally wrong and resorts to giving addresses of the party office in court.
