Hyderabad metro girders to increase traffic
Hyderabad- As the construction work at Hyderabad metro rail project is progressing, citizens will again be entangled with traffic at few road stretches.
L&T is planning to add four more launch girders at two different construction spots. Thus now there will be total six launch girdles on those two sites.
According to the Managing Director and Chief executive of L& T Metro rial, three launch girdles are ready while the remaining three will be completed soon as the construction activity progresses.
A girder is a support beam which is used in construction work. Each girder used here weigh around 300 tonnes and has a length of 34 cm. These girders help to place segments between two piers. These piers will be lifted from the trailer on the ground and later on they will be bonded together by glue to form a viaduct on which the two way rails will be laid.
These launch girders are initially made and tested at the casting yard before it is transported to the work site. They are further checked for maneuverability and safety at construction site. These launch girders are hinged so that during binding they can tackle the curves of the alignment. The metro will have total 28 hinged launch girders across three corridors in Hyderabad city.
The biggest challenge in this construction is the alignment. Around 60 percent of the total 72 km rail will have curves. Construction will be soon commissioned from Mettuguda to the Secunderabad railway station, Miyapur to S.R. Nagar, Victoria Memorial Home (Saroornagar) to L.B.Nagar and Begumpet to Rasoolpura.
Although the construction work has picked up speed but it need to be doubled to complete the entire metro project in five years. As soon as the piers are ready, traffic problems will be reduced. This is because after completion of piers, most of the remaining work will be done on top.
The work of raising piers followed by attaching segment and then forming viaduct will be executed simultaneously at several construction sites. Soil testing will also be expedited. Construction work has begun at the Miyapur depot, Uppal depot and will soon start at Falaknuma depot.
