Hyderabad to loose its Greens
Hyderabad will soon loose some of its green cover. The Larsen&Toubro (L&T) Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) has identified some three hundred treesĀ which it will cut. Most of the trees that will be felled are located between Miyapur and Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar (SR Nagar) for the LB Nagar Metro corridor-I. The HMRL will place its report to the tree-protection committee for its final decision.
Earlier two months ago L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) had conducted a tree census on the 28.87 km corridor-I, before taking up soil tests to construct piers for the elevated metro rail lines. After the survey, L&T HMRL authorities sent a report on the trees likely to be cut down because of the project. An official at the tree-protection committee has said that they will jointly conduct a survey with the HMRL authorities, before giving the go-ahead to cut the trees.
Hyderabad district forest officer (DFO) D Nagabhushanam has said that the HMRL authorities have asked for their permission. He also said that most of the trees are new trees and are just 10 years old.
