Illegal dike demolished in Bhubaneshwar
After residents and activists in Bhubaneswar protested against the construction of the illegal dike built on the path of the Gangua nullah, the state government moved into action and razed the illegal approach road to a bridge constructed over the Gangua nullah. Earlier locals belonging to ward No. 54 and 56 under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and five gram panchayats on the outskirts of the city have come together to highlight the authority of the issue. They formed the formed an organisation called Gangua Bachhao Andolan (GBA) to save the nullah.
The illegal construction partially blocked the nullah and hindered the flow of water and made the area prone to floods. Residents even threatened to take matters into their own hands if the government does not do anything. Now the locals are demanding demolition of a concrete culvert built over the Gangua nulla.
