Illegal structures in Chembur to be reviewed by HC
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been asked by the Bombay High Court to present details of the illegal structures in a locality in Chembur. These days many illegal structures have been springing in and around Chembur in Mumbai.
This case has came into light after a petition was filed by a cooperative housing society alleging that its land has been encroached illegally.
A division bench has been organised which has asked the municipal corporation to file an affidavit about the steps it had initiated against the illegal structures.
The said housing society claimed that one of the residents of the society has been illegally running a garage inside the complex without prior permissions. Also, many hutments have sprung up all around the building on land belonging to it. Further, no action has been taken despite numerous complaints.
Last year also, High Court had directed the civic body to take action against such structures but nothing has been done as of now. The HC had asked the BMC to set up a mechanism to redress complaints against encroachments.
In another case filed, the court had alleged that there is no need for the civic body, BMC to wait for the registration of a FIR. They can directly take action against unauthorized structures.
Further, BMC has to buck up more if any illegal structures are being rebuilt. The court reminded the BMC that it was the corporation’s responsibility to keep public land free of encroachers.
