Indian Food Security Alarming according to International Food Policy Research 2011
Shortage of food in India has become a major threat to the citizens and the food security situation continues as “alarming” according to the International Food Policy Research Institute Global Hunger Index for the year 2011. Nearly 67 countries around the world is facing worst food security status which proves that 14 countries in the world have a worse nutritional status. The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has proved a statistics of global food market which is attributed to three factors such as the increased use of food crops for biofuels, the extreme weather conditions resulting in climatic changes and also with the increased volume of trading of commodity futures markets.
These factors are leaving the world’s staple food importers dependent on other few countries for the food supply. The IFPRI report, which came recently reported that the food price volatility is expected to increase over the next decade also. However the residents in India are expected to use food with lot of care and must avoid wasting the food this would probably reduce the food shortage.
