Judicial Probe into Vadra Land Deals Likely
The newly elected and sworn in Haryana state government has made it clear that it is likely to order a probe into all the past land deals involving Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of congress president Sonia Gandhi. The announcement comes just a day after the new Haryana government was sworn in after it won an unprecedented majority in the state assembly elections. Since Robert Vadra murky land deals was a big election agenda for the BJP, the issue is likely to be one of the first to be discussed as the new set of minster’s get ready to usher in new land reforms for the state.
Two of the senior BJP leaders including senior minister and state BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma and Anil Vij, a minister in the Khattar government raised their concern over alleged favors granted by previous Hooda Government to Robert Vadra seeking a thorough probe. While the new government has made it clear that it is not going to follow a policy of vendetta politics and will continue the good reforms of the previous government, shady land deals of Robert Vadra are likely to open a can of worms in the coming weeks. The likelihood of a possible probe against Robert Vadra received a shot in the arm recently when Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley expressed his opinion that the newly formed BJP government in Haryana would order a probe into Vadra’s land deals.
The murky details of illegal favors given to Robert Vadra by the old Bhupinder Singh Hooda government came into public domain after IAS officer Ashok Khemka traced a series on illegal deals that allowed Robert Vadra access to land at cheap rates. There are also new reports that the new government was taking a legal opinion to overturn all decisions taken by its predecessor regarding the Vadra land deals.
Robert Vadra has been in the news for his rags to riches story involving murky real estate deals in Haryana, allowing him to raise hundreds of crores of assets and profits in land deals with virtually zero capital transaction. The previous Hooda government has been alleged to have bend the land acquisition rules to allow companies owned by Vadra get a massive chunk of land at throwaway rates before announcement of mega projects close of the acquired land.
