Kidwai Nagar East redevelopment plan gets approval from DUAC

Project under developmentNew Delhi: With few minor modifications, the redevelopment plan of Kidwai Nagar (East) has been approved by the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC).

If the area is redeveloped, it is expected to allow multi-storeyed residential towers comprising around 4,800 residential units besides one million feet of commercial space in that area. the project will be executed by the National Buildings Construction Corporation which is planning to invest Rs 4,000 crore.

This will be the first such large-scale redevelopment of a residential colony in Delhi in the recent years. Sources from DUAC said that, the plan has been approved with some minor changes. The NBCC has been told to rework on the alignment of towers so that they have enough space in between and have proper ventilation.

The NBCC officials have also agreed to modify the layout plans as recommended by the DUAC. They will approach the the authority with a new plan for the redevelopment project.

The Commission has also stressed that the NBCC should save as many trees as possible while the NBCC officials have said that they will save at least half of the trees in the area planned for redevelopment, said a source.

East Kidwai Nagar is spread across 86 acres. Sources have revealed that the project will be redeveloped in such a way that it would double the housing supply for government employees.

Currently there are 2,331 flats in the colony. It is planned to house approximately 4,800 flats after redevelopment. These residential apartments will include Type VI and Type VII dwelling units, which are meant for secretary level officers at the Centre.

The union urban development ministry is also looking to redevelop some other government colonies such as Sarojini Nagar, Srinivaspuri and Mohammadpur in South Delhi.
